B-10 JACKET “731ST BOMB SQUADRON”
The B-10 jacket is a classic piece of military apparel introduced by the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943 during World War II. Designed as a replacement for the heavier leather flight jackets like the A-2 and B-3, the B-10 was the first cloth-shelled flight jacket lined with alpaca wool for insulation. This innovation offered a balance of warmth, durability, and mobility, making it highly suitable for the demanding environments of bomber and fighter crews.
Constructed from olive drab cotton twill, patch pockets for utility. Its collar, made of mouton fur, provided additional warmth and a stylish appearance. The jacket was often personalized by pilots with squadron patches, artwork, and decorations, making each one unique.
Although the B-10 was only produced for a short time before being succeeded by the B-15 series, it remains a symbol of innovation in military outerwear. Its practical design and vintage aesthetic have made it a coveted piece among collectors and enthusiasts of military history. The B-10's influence is still evident in modern aviation and outdoor jackets.
